Yesterday I finished my third close reading of the full manuscript, and this morning when I woke up, it was like a switch had flicked in my brain. Yesterday I had the chance to write stories with loads of children and talk about my novel Cold Crash at the N21 Festival. What a fantastic day! The children, ranging from 3 to 8, wrote super stories. I think Good Invisible Flash was my favourite.

Today I've been looking at weather in 1952. I've quite cheerfully added a heavy rainstorm that didn't occur at the end of June, but I learned from the Met Office that the first of July was very warm (as they politely say) with temperatures reaching 90 degrees Fahrenheit
